Wan

Appearance

"Who are you calling ugly, Ugly?"

Wan is a pale dude with dark hair. He has no mousse, but his hair has infinite volume anyways. Also, many split ends. His triangular design elements reaffirm that he's a naughty little trickster hero. Additionally, his nose is very cute and rounded whilst his eyes are warm and coppery, amber if I'm feeling romantic about them. (When aren't I?)

After his origins as a young thief are shown, Wan begins his journey to eventually become the Avatar grow a really neat goatee. Just like how he doesn't just hold one element, Wan also holds another type of facial hair at the same time: those gloriously long sideburns.

One extra thing I love about him is his expressiveness. I find his gestures and body language really endearing, often losing time amongst every sly, smug smirk of his. Wan has a few different designs across his life, and I appreciate them all.

Personality

"Told you I wasn't like the others."

While he's described as "rough around the edges", Wan is a really friendly and caring person. He looks out for other people despite often enduring significant hardships himself. On that note, I admire his willpower, confidence and ability to stand up and be defiant.

Even before he mastered all four elements, Wan had many talents. He's resourceful and extremely crafty, manipulating the environment and deploying tricks rather than relying on sheer brawn. These tactics were often used to steal food from the wealthy Chou family. He could steal my lunch anytime.

Impulsive decisions are something that can land Wan into trouble. Nonetheless, he tries to set things right. I'm still so proud of him.

Wan's Treehouse

"Don't you ever wonder what's out there in the world?"

"Wan says he'd rather be dead than live the rest of his life in a tree"

Additions

  • Influences may have been taken from Hayao Miyazaki's work (particularly Princess Mononoke 1997), and the real world Zhou dynasty of China.
  • Wan originally crossdressed in Beginnings Part One to trick the Chou brothers.
  • Wan and Aang inspired aspects of the Legend of Korra character Kai.
  • Wan's most used word in his episodes was "Vaatu".
  • In Japan, the word "Wan" is used to represent the barking of a dog. It is also the noise I make when I see a picture of Wan.
